Richmond Champion, Haven Meged, and Jesse Brown receive cash prizes on Friday


Montana rodeo competitors Richmond Champion, Haven Meged, and Jesse Brown excelled in Round 9 of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Champion scored 86 points in bareback riding, earning $14,308 and tying for third place. Meged, a tie-down roper, finished in fifth place with a time of 7.6 seconds, earning $8,693. Brown, a steer wrestler, placed fifth with a time of 4.2 seconds.

Despite a no-score in steer wrestling, Ty Erickson had a successful night after winning his first silver buckle in 2024. Sage Newman, Lisa Lockhart, and Chase Dougherty had mixed results in saddle bronc, barrel racing, and bull riding, respectively. Kassie Mowry’s winning streak in barrel racing was ended by Hailey Kinsel, who took first place with a time of 13.48 seconds.

In team roping, Coleman Proctor and Logan Medlin won Round 9 with a time of 3.8 seconds. The 2024 National Finals Rodeo will conclude with the 10th and final round at the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday night.

Montana’s rodeo competitors have shown impressive skills and determination throughout the competition, earning notable finishes and prize money. Fans can look forward to an exciting finale as the athletes give their all in the last round of the prestigious event.
