Montana FWP restricts river access due to freezing temperatures

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) closed some fishing access sites in Southwest Montana due to the dangerous conditions caused by sub-zero temperatures at night and above-freezing temperatures during the day. The fluctuating temperatures have led to ice movement and potential flooding, posing risks to visitors of these sites. FWP spokesman Morgan Jacobsen emphasized the importance of safety and the organization’s efforts to balance providing access to recreation opportunities while ensuring public safety. Slip and fall accidents on snow-covered ice or falls into hidden river channels can be deadly during this time of year. FWP is continually assessing the situation and making decisions to either reopen closed access sites in whole or in part. Visitors are encouraged to check the FWP website for information on closures across Montana. The organization remains focused on maintaining safety as a top priority for all the sites affected by the adverse weather conditions.
