Successful Hunting Season in Northwest Montana

Montana’s general deer and elk hunting season ended with increased success compared to last year. More than 10,800 hunters visited check stations in Northwest Montana, with approximately 10% reporting successful game harvests, up from 9% last season. A total of 954 white-tailed deer, including 745 bucks, were reported, an increase from the previous year. Mule deer and elk harvests were slightly lower and higher, respectively, compared to last year. The hunting season may be over, but opportunities still exist for elk hunting in certain areas and Montana’s Muzzleloader Heritage season for deer and elk from Dec. 14-22. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is encouraging hunters to thank landowners for providing access to their properties. Hunters can share their stories and gratitude through an online portal, with FWP planning to share these messages with landowners after the season ends. Expressions of thanks can be submitted online at surveymonkey.com/r/thank-a-landowner-2024.
