Three people were killed and another seriously injured in a crash involving a Tesla Cybertruck in Piedmont, California. The vehicle was on fire when first responders arrived, unable to control the intense blaze. Authorities received notification of the crash early in the morning and found four people in the car, all home from college for the holidays. Flowers have been left at the scene in remembrance of the victims. The surviving individual, who remains unidentified, underwent surgery and is currently recovering.
An investigation into the crash, which is believed to have involved speeding, is being conducted in collaboration with the California Highway Patrol. Fire officials believe the lithium battery of the Cybertruck was not the cause of the fire and are looking into other possible factors. The community and loved ones are devastated by the tragedy, as described by a teacher who knew some of the victims.
Despite the tragedy, the city of Piedmont plans to continue with its Thanksgiving Turkey Trot, with a moment of silence and remarks from the Mayor in memory of those lost in the crash. The families of the victims are being respected by withholding their names from the public.
