Butte, Montana, is known for its haunted history, with many of the city’s historic buildings reported to be haunted by spirits. Local residents, such as history teacher Tony Hoffman, believe in the paranormal activity they have witnessed in places like the Dumas Brothel and the Cabbage Patch neighborhood.
One particular hotspot for ghostly sightings is Plantosaurus Rex, where visitors have reported seeing a weeping woman on the stairs leading to the basement. The spirit of a 9-year-old girl named Ethal Gill is said to haunt one of the cabins in the Cabbage Patch neighborhood, connecting with visitors on a personal level.
Even the Mother Lode Theater is said to have paranormal activity, with employees experiencing strange noises and unexplained movements in the building. Hoffman attributes the high level of ghostly encounters in Butte to the city’s tragic history, which includes mining accidents and various murders.
Despite the eerie encounters, businesses like Plantosaurus Rex have learned to coexist with the spirits they believe haunt their buildings. While some may be unnerved by the ghostly presence, others, like Myles Stricker, have grown accustomed to the supernatural occurrences. Overall, Butte’s haunted reputation adds to the city’s unique charm and draws in visitors curious about the spooky stories lurking within its historic walls.
