Sources say the father of the Georgia shooting suspect gifted his son an AR-15 style rifle

The father of the 14-year-old charged with murder in the Georgia high school shooting bought him an AR-15 style rifle as a gift after they were interviewed by law enforcement regarding threats the teenager made about a school shooting. The teen, Colt Gray, fatally shot four people at Apalachee High School, authorities said. His father, Colin Gray, was arrested for allowing his son to possess a weapon and charged with multiple offenses. The teen had shown an interest in mass shootings before, including the one at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Law enforcement had investigated the teen and his father after an FBI tip but ultimately cleared the case due to inconsistencies in the tip and the investigation. The teen denied making threats online and stated that he was not familiar with Discord, the platform where the threats were made. The sheriff’s office learned about the previous investigation after the shooting occurred and stated that there was no proper cause to arrest the teen. Some individuals, including a student at the high school, expressed concerns about the authorities being aware of the teen’s behavior and monitoring him before the shooting, suggesting that preventive measures could have been taken.
