His father, Colin Gray, was arrested for allowing his son to possess a weapon and charged with multiple offenses. The teen had shown an interest in mass shootings before, including the one at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Law enforcement had investigated the teen and his father after an FBI tip but ultimately cleared the case due to inconsistencies in the tip and the investigation. The teen denied making threats online and stated that he was not familiar with Discord, the platform where the threats were made. The sheriff’s office learned about the previous investigation after the shooting occurred and stated that there was no proper cause to arrest the teen. Some individuals, including a student at the high school, expressed concerns about the authorities being aware of the teen’s behavior and monitoring him before the shooting, suggesting that preventive measures could have been taken.
