Alaskan bear fatally mauls hunter

In Alaska, a hunter named Tad Fujioka was found dead after an apparent bear attack. Fujioka, 50, from Sitka, did not return from a deer hunting trip prompting a search that ended with the discovery of his remains. The Alaska State Troopers suspect that he was the victim of a fatal bear mauling. Sitka is a city and borough in the Alaska panhandle with a population of around 8,400. The type of bear responsible for the attack was not specified, but Alaska is home to black bears, brown bears (including grizzlies), and polar bears. There are approximately 100,000 black bears and 30,000 brown bears in Alaska, according to the state Department of Fish and Game. Polar bears are considered threatened in the state and are generally found further north than Sitka. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of bear encounters in the wilderness of Alaska.
