Sergio Ferrer, 36, has been accused of murder and aggravated robbery in the death of Colorado dog breeder Paul Peavey, 57. Peavey and up to 10 of his Doberman puppies went missing from his property, and he was found dead from a gunshot wound. Ferrer was initially arrested on an unrelated warrant from Nebraska but was considered a person of interest in Peavey’s homicide investigation. The sheriff’s office and other law enforcement agencies recommended charging Ferrer with murder in Peavey’s death.
Peavey, who specialized in breeding European Dobermans, was last heard from on August 19 and his body was found five days later under a pile of sticks and stones. The sheriff’s office revealed that as many as 10 puppies, all microchipped, may have been sold through social media sites, but the dogs remained unaccounted for.
The sheriff’s office did not provide details on a possible motive for the killing and it is unclear if Ferrer has legal representation. The case has shocked the local community, as Peavey was well known for his breeding business and the disappearance of both him and his puppies has raised concerns. The investigation into the case is ongoing as authorities work to uncover more details surrounding the events leading to Peavey’s death and the disappearance of the puppies.
