Over the weekend, an aggressive water buffalo escaped from its owner in Iowa and has remained on the loose in and around Des Moines. Police in Pleasant Hill have warned residents not to approach the creature, as it may be injured and dangerous. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has launched a drone and ATVs to search for the buffalo near Little Fourmile Creek, with the safety of the community being their top priority. Despite the potential danger, one resident, Martin Pontier, described the buffalo as calm as it wandered through his backyard. His 4-year-old son even had fun stories to tell his classmates about the unexpected visitor. Pontier admitted that he has learned more about Asian water buffaloes in the last 72 hours than he ever thought he would need to know. The owner of the water buffalo informed police that the animal is aggressive, adding to the urgency of returning it safely. Residents are advised to keep a lookout for the buffalo and avoid any contact with it until it can be safely returned to its owner.
