At least one person, the ship’s cook, has died after the luxury yacht Bayesian capsized near Palermo, Italy during a violent storm. The missing include Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, as well as Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife. Officials have been conducting a long and complex search operation, with divers unable to check through the ship’s portholes so far. They are using a remotely-operated underwater vehicle to aid in the search. The Bayesian, built in 2008, could carry 12 guests and up to 10 crew members and was owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was among the 15 people rescued. The yacht was known for its nearly 250-foot aluminum sailing mast. Lynch, who was known as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was acquitted of fraud charges related to the sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion. Survivors were seen leaving the Coast Guard Headquarters near Palermo. The situation is ongoing and the search efforts continue as authorities work to locate any trapped individuals in the cabins of the capsized yacht.
