A gay man, Christian Dingus, accused Shake Shack employees in Washington, D.C. of beating him after he kissed his boyfriend inside the restaurant. Dingus and his partner were waiting for their order when an employee told them they couldn’t be affectionate. When Dingus defended his partner, the employees allegedly attacked him. A video of the incident was recorded and shared online, showing Dingus being punched by employees. Police are investigating the case as a hate crime. Shake Shack has suspended the employees involved and is cooperating with authorities. Dingus suffered a concussion and jaw trauma, and the incident has shaken his sense of safety. The attack occurred in Dupont Circle, a popular and LGBTQ+-friendly neighborhood in Washington D.C. Dingus hopes the perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions. He stated that he believed in progress and the LGBTQ+ community in the area, but the incident shattered his sense of security and well-being. The organization that markets the city’s tourism destinations promotes Dupont Circle as queer-friendly. Dingus wants justice and for those responsible to face consequences for the assault he experienced.
