Starting in 2026, Ford will begin producing its F-Series Super Duty trucks in Canada at the Oakville Assembly Complex. This move is expected to increase production capacity by up to 100,000 trucks annually. Currently, the heavy-duty trucks are being produced at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant and Ohio Assembly Plant, both of which are operating at full capacity.
Ford has also announced plans to introduce multi-energy technology to the next generation of Super Duty trucks. While it is unclear what exactly this technology will entail, it is expected to go beyond just the F-250 model, possibly extending to the F-550. The potential for hybrid or electric powertrains is being considered, similar to the options available for the F-150, which includes internal combustion, self-charging hybrid, and zero-emission powertrain choices.
The implementation of hybrid technology in the Super Duty trucks could involve incorporating an electric motor into the transmission to assist with regenerative braking and improve fuel efficiency. This could result in significant improvements in fuel economy, similar to the gains seen with the F-150 PowerBoost model, which has seen a notable increase in miles per gallon compared to the standard model.
