Rookie stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will team up on the WNBA All-Star team to take on the U.S. Olympic team led by A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart on July 20 in Phoenix. Clark was the leading vote-getter from the fans, while Reese was fifth in the voting. The two rookies have been making a significant impact on ratings, merchandise sales, attendance, and on the court, with Clark excelling in assists and Reese leading the league in rebounds.
Joining the rookies on the WNBA team are several other standout players including DeWanna Bonner, Jonquel Jones, and Arike Ogunbowale. Ogunbowale was the MVP of the 2021 All-Star game. The U.S. Olympic team, looking for an eighth straight gold medal in Paris, features stars like Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi, and several players from the Las Vegas Aces.
Taurasi will be competing for a record sixth Olympic gold medal, while some players like Chelsea Gray and Kelsey Plum will be returning from the Tokyo Games. Other first-time Olympians on the U.S. team include Alyssa Thomas, Sabrina Ionescu, and Kahleah Copper.
Every player selected for either team is considered an All-Star, with Taurasi earning her 11th All-Star appearance. The league will also have a 3-point challenge and skill contest the night before the All-Star game.
