Montana State Bobcats Dominate Utah Tech in 31-7 Victory
SAINT GEORGE, Utah – August 31, 2024 – The Montana State Bobcats showcased a commanding performance against Utah Tech, emerging victorious with a score of 31-7 in their latest road game.
The Bobcats’ defense was relentless, limiting the Trailblazers to a mere 41 yards of offense through the first three quarters. Notably, Utah Tech didn’t gain a first down until the fourth quarter, reflecting Montana State’s exceptional defensive strategies.
On the offensive front, the Bobcats continued their impressive rushing performance, adding 335 yards to their total after a strong showing the previous week against FBS opponent New Mexico. By halftime, Montana State had established a 14-0 lead while out-gaining Utah Tech 272 yards to 38. The Bobcats recorded 230 rushing yards compared to the Trailblazers’ 29.
Key contributors included Scottre Humphrey with 91 rushing yards, Tommy Mellott with 70, and Adam Jones with 43 in the first half alone. Mellott also completed 7 of 13 passes for 42 yards. The game’s early momentum swung when Taco Dowler returned a punt 53 yards, setting up Jones for a one-yard touchdown plunge. Mellott then extended the lead with a 47-yard rushing touchdown.
Despite dominating play, the Bobcats faced penalties that totaled five infractions for 40 yards during the first two quarters. Nevertheless, the team improved to an impressive 2-0 record for the season, both wins secured on the road.
