Gov. Gianforte Tours Innovative Firefighting Equipment Facility in Missoula

MISSOULA, Mont. — On Wednesday, Governor Greg Gianforte visited the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) Equipment Development and Communications Center in Missoula. The governor toured the facility to learn about the latest advancements in firefighting equipment, specifically the new firefighting engine 2.0, which has been in development since the late 1970s.

Gianforte praised the DNRC for its efficient use of taxpayer dollars, noting that the upgraded engines are designed to meet the needs of firefighting partners. The new models offer enhanced ease of operation and maintenance, incorporating features to assist aging volunteer firefighters in safely entering and exiting the cab.

Additionally, the trucks are outfitted with locally manufactured grille guards to protect against wildlife collisions. DNRC officials highlighted that the cost of the new trucks is approximately $90,000. Governor Gianforte emphasized that this cost would be significantly higher if the engines were not produced in-house by the DNRC, showcasing the organization’s commitment to innovation and local manufacturing.
