Vice President JD Vance Makes Surprise Visit to Murdoch Ranch in Montana

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President JD Vance unexpectedly traveled to Montana on Tuesday, meeting media titan Rupert Murdoch, his son Lachlan, and other Fox News executives at the Murdoch family ranch near Dillon. Sources familiar with the visit confirmed the details on the condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to publicly discuss the meeting.
The visit, which raised local speculation due to the surprise landing of Air Force Two in Butte, lasted only a few hours. Vance’s motorcade was seen departing from the ranch, approximately 70 miles south of Butte. The ranch, acquired by Murdoch in 2021, is expansive, covering two valleys and a mountain range and housing around 12,000 cattle near Yellowstone National Park.
While the topics of discussion between Vance and the Murdoch family remain unclear, the Vice President’s office typically does not disclose his itinerary. Speculation intensified, especially given Vance’s scheduled lunch with former President Donald Trump the following day in Washington, suggesting a quick turnaround post-visit.
Rupert Murdoch, now 94, recently stepped down from leading Fox News and News Corp., passing leadership to Lachlan. The Murdoch family has historically maintained strong ties with the Republican Party and has supported Trump, including his inauguration.
Montana state Auditor James Brown stated he assisted Vance’s staff in arranging the visit, meeting the Vice President upon his arrival and helping to escort his entourage.
The implications of Vance’s meeting with the Murdochs, a powerful media family aligned with conservative politics, remain to be seen as details continue to emerge.
