Vance Took a Short Trip to Montana to Meet with Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch, According to AP Sources

Vice President JD Vance Hosts Unexpected Meeting with Murdoch Family in Montana

Montana – In a surprise visit on Tuesday, Vice President JD Vance met with media titan Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan, the head of Fox News and News Corp., at the Murdoch family’s ranch near Dillon, Montana. The impromptu trip included discussions with other executives from Fox News, although the exact topics of conversation remain unclear.

Sources familiar with the visit confirmed details to The Associated Press, requesting anonymity due to the private nature of the meeting. The vice president’s office did not provide any advance notice of the trip, sparking local speculation upon the arrival of Air Force Two in Butte, Montana.

The Murdoch ranch, acquired by Rupert in 2021, spans two valleys and a mountain range, is home to approximately 12,000 cattle, and is situated near Yellowstone National Park, approximately 70 miles south of Butte. According to FAA flight restrictions, Vance’s aircraft was only on the ground for a few hours.

Following this meeting, Vance was scheduled to have lunch with former President Donald Trump on Wednesday, further emphasizing the ongoing connection between Republican leadership and the Murdoch media empire. Rupert Murdoch, 94, transitioned control of Fox News and News Corp to his son Lachlan earlier this year and has maintained a longstanding, favorable relationship with Trump.

Montana state Auditor James Brown confirmed he assisted Vance’s team in arranging the trip. Brown stated he met Vance upon his arrival and helped escort the vice president’s staff, adding to the intrigue surrounding this unexpected engagement in the scenic backdrop of Montana.

The Vice President returned to Washington following the brief meeting, underscoring the close ties between the Republican establishment and media stakeholders.
