Gallatin Girls and Flathead Boys Crowned State Track Champions in Kalispell
KALISPELL — The high school track and field season concluded in thrilling fashion Saturday night at Legends Stadium, with the Gallatin girls and Kalispell Flathead boys capturing the Class AA state team titles.
Over a three-day event, athletes showcased remarkable talents, beginning with the boys pole vault on Thursday. The excitement surged on Saturday as two all-class records fell. Billings Skyview’s Rae Smart opened the day by launching the javelin 162 feet, 11 inches, demolishing the previous record. Smart also claimed state titles in the discus with a throw of 127 feet, 5 inches, and Friday’s shot put.
Flathead’s Alivia Rinehart made her mark by setting an all-class record in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.06 seconds. Additionally, she achieved personal bests in both the 200-meter dash (24.54 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles (42.07 seconds).
The Flathead boys’ championship was bolstered by the outstanding performance of William Hollensteiner, who won the 300 hurdles with a best time of 37.94 seconds and anchored the 1,600-meter relay to victory with a crucial final leg, securing a time of 3:19.76. Hollensteiner also triumphed in the 200-meter dash at 21.94 seconds and set an all-class record in the 400-meter dash the day prior.
For the Gallatin girls, distance runners Isabel Ross and Hazel Cooper played pivotal roles, finishing first and second in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs, respectively, while Claire Rutherford also clocked in with a personal best in the 3200-meter run.
