$10,000 Reward Offered for Missing Girl on Crow Indian Reservation

A $10,000 reward is now available for information on the whereabouts of 13-year-old Sa’Wade Birdinground, who vanished from her grandparents’ home on the Crow Indian Reservation in Garryowen, Montana, on October 6, 2024. The FBI’s Salt Lake City office is contributing $5,000, matched by the Crow Tribe, to incentivize any leads in her case.

In response to Sa’Wade’s disappearance, community members held a press conference and released red balloons at Little Big Horn College to symbolize their hope for her safe return. This heart-wrenching case sheds light on a broader issue affecting Indigenous communities, where missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls face alarmingly high rates. According to the group Native Hope, Indigenous women are murdered at rates ten times higher than their non-Indigenous counterparts on reservations.

The Department of Justice’s "Operation Not Forgotten" aims to enhance investigations into such cases and address the systemic issues faced by Native people. Despite extensive searches involving local authorities, the FBI, and community volunteers, no credible leads have emerged. Sa’Wade was approximately 5’4" to 5’5", weighing 130–140 pounds, and last seen wearing distinctive clothing. Community and officials alike continue to seek justice and answers.
