BILLINGS, Mont. – The National EMS Memorial Service recently made a poignant stop at the Freedom Memorial in Billings as part of its 6,500-mile journey to honor emergency medical services professionals who have died in the line of duty. The unique event travels via a specially decorated ambulance, visiting 29 locations to pay tribute to 29 dedicated EMS responders.
In Billings, local first responders and community members gathered to reflect on the sacrifices made by these heroes. Keynote speaker Marc Kilman-Burnham, Governmental Affairs Director for Global Medical Response, emphasized the purpose of the event: “Our main focus is to advocate for a permanent memorial in Washington, D.C., dedicated to EMS professionals,” he stated, underscoring the absence of such a tribute.
The tour, now in its fifth year, has prioritized visits to rural areas, ensuring that communities across the nation feel represented and remembered. "We’re here to support and sponsor these communities, helping to honor their lost members," a representative expressed.
