Miley Cyrus Reveals She “Wasn’t Allowed” to Perform ‘Hannah Montana’ Songs

Miley Cyrus Opens Up About Leaving "Hannah Montana" Behind

In a recent appearance on Spotify’s "The Ringer" podcast, Miley Cyrus shared her experience of leaving the Disney Channel series “Hannah Montana” and the challenges that followed. Reflecting on her exit in 2011, she revealed, “After I left Disney, I wasn’t allowed to perform any of the ‘Hannah Montana’ music.” Although she noted that performing hits like “The Best Of Both Worlds” alongside tracks such as “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” wouldn’t make sense, she expressed disappointment at being unable to sing songs tied to her iconic character.

However, after being honored as a Disney Legend at D23 2024, Cyrus was thrilled to announce she’s “given permission to perform those songs in the future.” “Hannah Montana,” which aired from 2006 to 2011, followed a teenager leading a double life as a pop star and featured actors like Emily Osment and Billy Ray Cyrus.

As Cyrus embarks on her new project—a visual album titled “Something Beautiful” premiering on June 12—she paid homage to influential female artists like Tina Turner and Diana Ross, stating they paved the way for her journey in music.
