Press Release: Free Summer Meals Program in Southwest Montana
BUTTE, Mont. — As summer vacation begins, Action Inc. is proud to announce the return of its Free Summer Meals Program, ensuring that children aged 18 and under have access to nutritious meals. Kicking off June 16, meals will be available at 16 locations in Butte, with additional sites in Deer Lodge and Whitehall. A related initiative in Anaconda will offer meals at eight locations starting June 9.
"This program is essential to prevent hunger among children when school is out," stated Erica Johnson, program coordinator. Parents aren’t required to accompany their children, encouraging easy access for all who need it.
The meals are prepared at East Middle School and made possible through collaboration with the USDA, Montana Office of Public Instruction, and local volunteers and organizations. Funding for some sites comes from the Town Pump Foundation, which supports those ineligible for federal aid. However, concerns over potential federal budget cuts could threaten the program’s future.
"We hope this initiative continues receiving necessary funding," Johnson added. For more information on meal locations and hours, visit Action Inc.’s resources or check local flyers.
