Press Release: Montana High School Championships Set for Exciting 2026 Season
MISSOULA, MT — Following a lively championship weekend in western Montana, plans are underway for an equally busy 2026 season for the Montana High School Association (MHSA) spring sports.
Missoula will once again be a hub of activity, hosting the State AA/B track meet, State B/C tennis tournament, and the Class AA state softball tournament from May 28-30, 2026. Additionally, Kalispell will host the State AA tennis tournament, while Hamilton will hold the Class A state softball tournament, and Butte will welcome the state baseball tournament.
There is ongoing discussion about splitting the baseball tournament into two classifications—Class AA and Class A/B/C—due to an increase in participation. Currently, 14 of Montana’s 16 Class AA schools are poised to add baseball teams, with several already in development throughout the state.
The 2026 spring sports championships will also see events in other cities, with the State A/C track meet scheduled in Laurel, State B/C softball in Billings, and State B and C golf tournaments in Billings and Shelby, respectively. The location for the State A tennis tournament remains undecided.
Looking ahead to the 2025-26 academic year, the first state events will include the Class AA and A state golf meets in Butte and Sidney on October 2-4, followed by the state cross country meet in Missoula on October 25. The annual all-class state volleyball tournament is set for November 12-14 in Bozeman.
This year also marks changes to the wrestling tournament schedule, now set for February 19-21 at the First Interstate Arena in Billings, while the state swim meet returns to Great Falls from February 12-14, 2026.
Prepare for an exciting year ahead in Montana high school sports as local athletes compete for championship titles!
