Press Release: Key Developments in Western Montana

WESTERN MONTANA — October 4, 2023 — Western Montana’s news highlights feature significant changes in healthcare and housing. Providence St. Patrick Hospital has announced the closure of its Family Maternity Center effective October 10, due to declining birth rates and workforce shortages. The hospital is collaborating with Western Montana Clinic and Community Medical Center to ensure a smooth transition for expectant mothers.

In a positive development, Missoula’s New Hope Hospice Center officially opened on Tuesday after eight years of planning. This facility, the second of its kind in Montana, aims to provide a comforting, residential-style environment for end-of-life care, with plans to welcome patients this summer.

Meanwhile, in Kalispell, the Samaritan House’s Affordable Housing Expansion is set to break ground on July 1. This project’s first phase will include 18 family-style apartments, with completion expected by Summer 2026. Future phases will address housing needs for displaced veterans. So far, $8.3 million has been secured of the estimated $17 million required for the project.

These stories underscore both the challenges and positive developments facing communities in Western Montana.
