Mayor Appoints Lonnie Rash as New Missoula City Fire Chief
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) – Mayor Andrea Davis announced the appointment of Lonnie Rash as the new Fire Chief for Missoula, effective July 1, following the retirement of longtime Chief Gordy Hughes. Rash, who will be transitioning from his role as Fire Chief in Spokane County, expressed admiration for Hughes, recognizing his longstanding contributions to the Missoula Fire Department.
“I’ve met with Chief Hughes and shared my goal to honor the legacy of past firefighters,” Rash remarked, highlighting his intent to seek guidance from Hughes during his transition.
A Montana native, Rash noted the attraction of returning to his roots and emphasized the community’s commitment to adequately funding the fire department, a sentiment that aligns with his values of supporting firefighters.
Rash is particularly eager to lead the department following a recent comprehensive EMS study that will influence the strategic placement of future fire stations to better serve the community. As he steps into this leadership role, Rash is prepared to enhance the effectiveness of the Missoula City Fire Department and is committed to nurturing its legacy. Chief Hughes will officially retire after 32 years of service on June 30.
