Missoula Art Exhibit Spotlighting Missing and Murdered Indigenous People

Press Release: Exhibition "Outrage" Highlights Missing Indigenous People in Montana

MISSOULA — The movement for justice surrounding Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) continues to resonate in Montana, as artist Brian Maguire unveils his poignant portrait series. “Outrage,” set to open on June 6 at the Missoula Art Museum, features the faces of individuals like Jermain Charlo and Arden Pepion—each a representation of the lives impacted by this ongoing crisis.

Over the past five years, Maguire has dedicated himself to understanding the stories of missing Indigenous individuals from nearly every tribe in Montana. His work involved forming deep connections with the families of these individuals, showcasing the emotional weight behind each portrait. Senior Curator Brandon Reintjes expressed the bittersweet nature of the exhibit, which he described as both an honor and an emotional journey. “It gets harder and harder,” Reintjes said of the relationships fostered through Maguire’s dedication.

The exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for justice and awareness surrounding MMIP, offering the community a chance to reflect on these stories and the individuals behind them. For more information, visit the Missoula Art Museum’s website.
