Belgrade, MT – October 18, 2023 – The Belgrade School District has announced the resignation of Jeremy Curry, head coach of the Belgrade High School football team, following a serious incident that occurred during practice on October 16.
In an official statement addressing the widely circulated reports, the district clarified that no inappropriate conduct was attributed to Coach Curry. Rather, it was revealed that a student player assaulted Curry during practice, requiring the coach to seek medical attention. The district stated that Curry’s actions in self-defense did not violate any laws or district policies. Despite his defense being justified, the severity of the altercation led Coach Curry to voluntarily resign.
The school district has initiated a formal investigation into the incident, with interim oversight of the football team now under Eric Kinnaman, a former head coach at Belgrade High. Parents were informed of the developments via email from Leslie Atkinson, the district’s public information officer.
