Great Falls Woman Charged with Homicide in Downtown Incident

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Kelsey Staigmiller appeared in court this week facing serious charges, including deliberate homicide, related to an incident that left local business owner Sarah Bailey dead. The incident occurred on May 18, when Staigmiller allegedly forced entry into an apartment during a drug-fueled dispute. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Staigmiller assaulting Bailey, who was seated in her pickup truck, before driving off and dragging her down the street.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Great Falls community. During an arraignment at the Cascade County Courthouse, Judge Elizabeth Best, who has connections to the Staigmiller family, assured impartiality in overseeing the case. Prosecutor Matthew Robertson described the event as “every citizen’s worst nightmare.”

The state argued that Staigmiller is a flight risk, citing her swift departure from Great Falls after the incident, which ended in her apprehension by Missoula County deputies. In contrast, Staigmiller’s defense requested a bail reduction from $500,000 to $10,000, noting her family ties and compliance willingness. Staigmiller pleaded not guilty to all charges, with a scheduling hearing set for June 16.
