Burger King’s Chicken Nuggets Crowned the Cheapest Fast Food Option

A recent study conducted in Houston, Texas, compared nugget prices from ten leading fast food restaurants to determine cost efficiency. Nuggets fall into two categories: the traditional version, made from ground chicken mixed with fillers and seasonings, and the tender-style nuggets that are fried pieces of whole breast meat. Notably, McDonald’s pioneered the chicken nugget trend in 1983, although they were first conceptualized by Cornell University’s Robert C. Baker in 1963.
Following Burger King’s economical offering, the next cheapest option is Jack in the Box, where nuggets cost 50 cents each. Wendy’s Crispy Chicken Nuggets come in third at 60 cents, while Chick-fil-A’s nuggets are priced at 65 cents. McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets trail behind at 67 cents each.
On the higher end of the scale, Popeye’s Classic Boneless Wings, a fancier name for tender-style nuggets, are the most expensive at $1.17 each. Shake Shack’s Chicken Bites and Carl’s Jr.’s Chicken Stars tie as the next priciest options at 92 cents.
