Montana Athletics Announces 2024 Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame Inductees
MISSOULA — The University of Montana’s athletic department has revealed the 2024 class of the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame and this year’s recipient of the Grizzly Lifetime Honors Award.
This year’s induction ceremony celebrates a storied tradition in Grizzly football, featuring three remarkable former players: All-American safety Colt Anderson from Butte, All-Big Sky receiver Scott Gurnsey from Tumwater, Washington, and All-American offensive lineman Dylan McFarland from Kalispell. Joining them is Lady Griz basketball star Kelly (Pilcher) Beattie, an All-Big Sky guard from Missoula.
In recognition of his significant contributions to Grizzly Athletics, UM’s longest-serving President, George Dennison, will be posthumously honored with the Grizzly Lifetime Honors Award. “The Hall of Fame committee has done a great job selecting five Grizzly greats deserving of this honor,” remarked Director of Athletics Kent Haslam, emphasizing their lasting impact on both athletics and the university.
The Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame, founded in 1993, aims to honor those who have made remarkable contributions to Montana athletics and continue to embody the values instilled through their experiences. The Grizzly Lifetime Honors Award, established in 2018, acknowledges non-athletes who have made outstanding contributions to Grizzly Athletics.
The induction ceremony is set for October 4 at the Adams Center on the University of Montana campus and will coincide with the Grizzlies’ football game against Weber State on October 5. Ticket information for the banquet will be announced soon. With this year’s additions, the Hall of Fame now boasts 79 members. Last year’s inductees included notable figures such as All-American distance runner Dean Erhard and founding soccer coach Betsy Duerksen.
