Record Heat Advisory Issued for Central and Western Montana

MONTANA – A weather alert has been issued across central and particularly western Montana as a significant heat wave sets in, bringing temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above normal. A heat advisory is now in effect for the Missoula, Bitterroot, Mission, and Flathead Valleys, extending westward to the state border.

Clear skies envelop the region, but gusty winds are causing concerns in northeast Montana, prompting a wind advisory for Fort Peck Lake until 7 PM, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph.

The elevated temperatures are expected to persist through the first half of the weekend, before a cold front pushes through, bringing cooler weather to the western part of the state by Sunday and affecting the entire state on Monday and Tuesday. This weekend could also see showers and thunderstorms in the southeastern regions, stretching from Dillon to Lewistown and Glasgow, with potential rainfall between half an inch to an inch.

As for temperatures, lows tonight will range from the mid-40s to mid-50s, with highs tomorrow peaking in the mid-80s to mid-90s. Come Monday and Tuesday, expect a sharp drop in temperatures to the 50s and 60s, with a warming trend anticipated later next week.
