Bozeman’s Oliver Olsen Named Gatorade Montana Boys Soccer Player of the Year
Chicago, IL — Bozeman High School’s goalkeeper, Oliver Olsen, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Gatorade Montana Boys Soccer Player of the Year, recognized for his exceptional performance both on the field and in the community, as announced Friday.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 185 pounds, Olsen was instrumental in leading the Hawks to an impressive record of 14-0-3 and capturing the Class AA state championship last fall. His standout season included nine shutouts, allowing only 13 goals against. Notably, he showcased his skill during the state semifinals, making two critical saves during a shootout that propelled Bozeman past Bozeman Gallatin and into the championship match, where they clinched the title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Billings West.
Olsen’s talents have garnered him multiple honors, including the Eastern AA Player of the Year and a two-time first-team all-state selection. West coach Luke Ashmore commended Olsen’s unique influence on games, stating, “I’ve never seen a goalkeeper influence matches the way Oliver did this season.”
Beyond his athletic achievements, Olsen excelled academically, maintaining a weighted GPA of 3.91. His commitment to service is evident through his participation in a mission trip to Tanzania with the Montana Futbol Foundation, where he contributed to building infrastructure for schools and provided soccer gear to local youth. He also volunteered for the Special Olympics.
Olsen is the fifth player from Bozeman High to receive the Gatorade award, following Zach Springer (2020), Ted Scott (2019), Ben Hietala (2015), and Alec Mashall (2014). He plans to advance his soccer career at Westminster University in Utah.
