Press Release: AI Revolutionizes Cylinder Management in Industrial Gas Sector
In a groundbreaking shift, artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming how industrial gas companies manage their cylinders, enhancing registration accuracy, traceability, and predictive maintenance processes. A recent gasworld webinar featured insights from TrackAbout and Datacor, emphasizing the application of AI to resolve long-standing challenges in cylinder lifecycle management.
Elizabeth Wallace, Vice-President of Product at TrackAbout, explained that the integration of AI starts at the registration phase. Utilizing visual recognition technology, the focus is on eliminating human error and ensuring precise data entry from the outset. "The most important part of asset management is knowing where your assets are and using them efficiently," Wallace stated. Each cylinder is assigned detailed data points, from owner to manufacturing information, minimizing risks associated with incorrect manual inputs.
Lou Zhang, Senior Lead of Data Science at Datacor, shared insights into their AI model’s capabilities, which utilize deep learning and computer vision to read cylinder markings, even in challenging conditions. “We aim to reduce manual workload and error rates by up to 90%,” Zhang noted, highlighting a significant efficiency boost for large distributors.
Beyond registration, AI also plays a critical role in monitoring cylinder condition, identifying issues like surface damage or wear that can affect safety. Additionally, the technology tracks cylinder movements, addressing skipped processes and inconsistencies that could lead to operational hiccups.
Looking forward, both experts foresee AI being integrated into customer-facing portals, allowing users to generate reports and forecast demand through intuitive interfaces. "We want to empower users to get the answers they need quickly," said Wallace.
With these innovations, TrackAbout and Datacor are setting a new standard in cylinder management, paving the way for smarter, more efficient operations in the industrial gas sector.
