Montana Athletes Shine at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship West Regional
COLLEGE STATION, TX – The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship West First Round kicked off on Thursday in College Station, Texas, featuring a competitive field of athletes vying for spots in the national championship meet set for June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon.
Notable performances came from Montana State junior Hailey Coey, who secured her place in Eugene by finishing eighth in the women’s long jump with a standout jump of 6.44 meters (21 feet, 1.5 inches). Despite strong efforts, Oregon State senior Delaney Bahn placed 29th with a jump of 6.08 meters (19-11.5), while Baylor freshman Logan Todorovich, representing Helena, finished 39th at 5.89 meters (19-4). Baylor’s Alexis Brown took the top spot with an impressive leap of 6.94 meters (22-9.25).
In the women’s shot put, Montana State’s Sydney Brewster finished 20th with a throw of 15.98 meters (52-5.25). Teammate Emma Brensdal, after struggling initially with fouls, managed a final throw of 13.35 meters (43-9.75) to secure 46th place. The event was won by Colorado State’s Mya Lesnar at 18.5 meters (60-8.5).
Other events saw Montana athletes competing in the javelin, 100 hurdles, 800 meters, 400 hurdles, 200 meters, and pole vault. Montana’s Ashley Carroll placed 31st in the javelin with a throw of 45.06 meters (147-10). Millie Hubbell finished 43rd overall in the 100 hurdles, while Giulia Gandolfi clocked in at 58.91 seconds in the 400 hurdles, placing 27th.
With the women’s finals continuing into the weekend, the competition remains fierce as athletes aim for a coveted spot in Eugene.
