Lumberjacks Gear Up for Challenging Match Against No. 14 Montana
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Oct. 10, 2024) — The Northern Arizona University (NAU) football team, ranked 24th in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25, is set to face a significant challenge against the 14th-ranked Montana Grizzlies this Saturday in Missoula. This game marks the fifth road matchup for NAU in just six weeks, a stretch that includes four contests against ranked teams.
Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. MST at Washington-Grizzly Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and local channels, including KNXV 15.2 in Phoenix and KGUN 9.3 in Tucson. Fans can also tune in to the Northern Arizona Healthcare NAU Lumberjack Radio Network for live commentary.
Currently, the Lumberjacks hold a 3-3 record overall and are 1-1 in Big Sky Conference play. Following a narrow 23-17 defeat to No. 10 Idaho, the team will aim to bounce back. Quarterback PJ London stepped in last week after an injury to Ty Pennington and scored his first career touchdown, demonstrating the resilience of the NAU squad.
The Grizzlies enter the matchup with a 4-2 record, having recently fallen to Weber State in a high-scoring overtime game. Historically, the Grizzlies lead their series against NAU 37-15 and have a strong home record at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
NAU’s defense has been a standout this season, ranking 13th nationally in total defense and 19th in scoring defense. Players to watch include Alex McLaughlin, who leads the team with 39 tackles, and several key defensive players contributing to a formidable unit.
As the Lumberjacks look to secure a vital road win, they will also be focusing on their balanced offensive attack, led by running back Darvon Hubbard and tight end Bryzai White. Following this weekend’s clash, NAU will return home for a matchup against Idaho State on October 19.
