Warm Weather Meets Thunderstorm Potential in Montana

MONTANA – This Saturday, Montana and northern Wyoming basked in warmth and sunshine, although wildfire smoke lingered over the region. Evening thunderstorms were predicted, with a 20-40% chance of showers for most areas. Red Flag Warnings were in effect for Glasgow, Jordan, and Glendive until 9:00 p.m. due to low humidity levels and strong winds, creating hazardous fire conditions.

Looking ahead to Mother’s Day Sunday, forecasters anticipate increased rain and thunderstorms, with a 50-70% chance of precipitation across much of the state—Billings, however, expects only a 20% chance. Rainfall totals from Saturday night through Monday evening could be significant, with Billings receiving up to 1.5 inches, while other areas like Dillon and Kalispell could see around 1 inch.

Temperatures on Saturday soared into the 90s in the eastern parts of the state, with Billings hitting the 80s and cooler 60s in West Yellowstone. A notable temperature drop is expected by the week’s end, with highs in the 50s and upper 40s. Wetter and cooler conditions than average are anticipated as mid-May approaches. Stay tuned for updates as unsettled weather continues into the work week.
