SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco 49ers have officially signed Junior Bergen, a seventh-round draft pick from the University of Montana, to a four-year contract. The team announced the signing on Friday, confirming that Bergen was selected as the 36th pick in the seventh round and the No. 252 overall selection during the April draft. The contract, valued at over $4.3 million, includes potential earnings of $840,000 in 2025, according to OverTheCap.com.

A standout player from Billings Senior High School, Bergen made a name for himself as one of college football’s leading return specialists while at Montana. He concluded his college career with an impressive eight punt return touchdowns, which ties him for the most in FCS history. Moreover, Bergen’s remarkable average of 16.71 yards per punt return set a program record. He gained notoriety as a postseason hero, notably scoring three return touchdowns in the 2023 playoffs, significantly contributing to the Grizzlies’ journey to the FCS national championship game.

Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 184 pounds, Bergen amassed a total of 4,468 all-purpose yards, placing him sixth in Grizzly history, along with 1,760 receiving yards that rank him among the top 25 in the program’s history.
