Tommy Mellott Signs First NFL Contract with Raiders, Reportedly Exceeding $4 Million

Las Vegas Raiders Sign Sixth-Round Draft Pick Tommy Mellott

LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Raiders have officially signed sixth-round draft pick Tommy Mellott, who was selected 213th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. According to Raiders Wire, the four-year deal is valued at $4.374 million, including a signing bonus of $174,300. Mellott will earn approximately $883,572 during the 2025 season.

Mellott, a distinguished All-America quarterback from Montana State University, was honored with the Walter Payton Award for the top offensive player in the FCS for 2024. However, he is projected to transition to wide receiver at the professional level. During Montana State’s pro day, Mellott showcased his athleticism, clocking a 4.39-second 40-yard dash and posting a 41-inch vertical jump.

His versatility has drawn comparisons to former New England Patriots star Julian Edelman, who also made a successful switch from quarterback to wide receiver after being drafted in the seventh round in 2009. Edelman had an illustrious career, accumulating 620 receptions, 6,822 yards, and 36 touchdowns, contributing to three Super Bowl victories.

Raiders’ director of college scouting, Brandon Yeargan, highlighted Mellott’s potential impact on the team. "We see him as a receiver who could also have significant value in the kicking game, both as a returner and a cover player. He may even play some quarterback," Yeargan noted, emphasizing Mellott’s unique skill set and impressive testing numbers.

With these capabilities, Mellott is poised to make his mark on the Raiders’ roster as the team looks to strengthen its offense and special teams in the upcoming season. As preparations for training camp begin, fans can anticipate how the 6-foot, 207-pound athlete will contribute in various roles.
