Press Release: Montana Legislature Wraps Up 2025 Session with Key Legislation
As the 2025 legislative session concludes, Rep. Steven Kelly (R-Kalispell) expressed pride in the meaningful legislation passed, highlighting a focus on public safety and reducing bureaucratic hurdles. Throughout the session, which involved intense discussions and decision-making, four significant bills were enacted to enhance the lives of Montanans.
Among the key measures is House Bill 467, which revises DUI laws by permitting oral fluid testing, providing law enforcement with quicker methods to ensure road safety. House Bill 468 modernizes Montana’s watercraft regulations by eliminating outdated validation decal requirements and simplifying the registration process, significantly benefitting boaters.
Another vital piece of legislation, House Bill 493, introduces a felony for knowingly possessing a stolen firearm, with a maximum prison sentence of ten years. This measure is designed to strengthen laws against violent crime and illegal gun trafficking in Montana. Additionally, Rep. Kelly supported “Bobby’s Law,” which establishes a new offense of aggravated vehicular homicide for impaired drivers resulting in fatalities.
Rep. Kelly emphasized that these laws reflect Montana’s values of family protection and accountability. As he adjourns, he feels committed to pursuing commonsense solutions for Montanans.
