Machete-Wielding Suspect Leads High-Speed Chase in Bozeman
BOZEMAN — A typically quiet Tuesday afternoon erupted into chaos when Miguel Angel Aldava allegedly brandished a machete at drivers, prompting a police pursuit through city streets. Witness Jordan Clement, who observed the chase from Scrubby’s, described the experience as surreal, noting, “You might hear about it, but you never get to see that firsthand.”
The incident began around 1:20 p.m. when a couple reported being aggressively tailgated by a driver wielding a machete on Springhill Road. Responding officers from various agencies attempted to pull the suspect over, but Aldava fled, leading them on a dangerous chase that culminated in a collision with a Bozeman Police Department SUV.
Aldava was apprehended at the scene and has been charged with multiple felonies, including assault with a weapon and fleeing law enforcement, with a bond set at $250,000. During his court appearance, Judge Rick West warned him of the serious implications of the charges, each carrying penalties of up to 20 years.
While the incident raised concerns, Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer emphasized Bozeman’s reputation as one of the safest communities in Montana. Police expressed gratitude for community support following the event and confirmed that their K-9 officer involved in the chase was recovering well.
