MSU-Northern Welcomes New Basketball Signings

HAVRE — The MSU-Northern athletic department has announced two exciting additions to its basketball programs: Tracen Jilot from Box Elder for the men’s team and Kaitlyn Hammett from Missoula Sentinel for the women’s squad.

Tracen Jilot, a 6-foot-2 guard, played a crucial role in leading Box Elder to its second consecutive Class C state boys basketball title in the 2024-25 season. A three-time all-state selection, Jilot showcased impressive statistics, averaging 28.0 points, three assists, and four steals per game. "Tracen is a humble guy who operates as a poised teammate with a fearless tenacity when plays are needed," said Northern men’s basketball coach Shawn Huse. Jilot also contributed to his school’s success in football, having helped win the 6-Man football championship last fall. Huse expressed confidence that Jilot’s skills will translate effectively to the collegiate level.

On the women’s side, Missoula Sentinel’s Kaitlyn Hammett, a 5-foot-6 guard, is joining the Skylights after a solid senior season, where she averaged 7.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. Hammett is recognized not just for her basketball abilities but also for her athleticism across multiple sports, having earned 10 letters in golf, basketball, track, and cross country. “Kaitlyn is a great addition to our program,” commented women’s basketball coach Chris Mouat. “She has tremendous upside, is very athletic, and she embodies the qualities we value at our university. We’re excited to see her progress in a Skylight uniform.”

Both Jilot and Hammett are expected to make significant contributions to their respective teams as they embark on their collegiate careers.
