Montana’s Cockhill and Jantzi Earn All-Conference Honors

MISSOULA — The University of Montana softball team celebrated notable achievements this week as freshman shortstop Anna Cockhill and senior outfielder Presley Jantzi received recognition for their standout performances during the season. Cockhill was named to the all-Big Sky Conference honorable mention list, while Jantzi earned a spot on the second-team all-Big Sky list, marking her second consecutive year of accolades.

Under the guidance of first-year coach Stef Ewing, both players have been instrumental at the top of the lineup, showcasing stellar offensive and defensive skills. Cockhill, a Helena native, has been a driving force for the Grizzlies, leading the team with 27 runs scored and boasting a .416 on-base percentage. She has also made waves on the bases, stealing 27 bases, which ranks her among the nation’s top performers in stolen bases.

Having started every game this season, Cockhill displayed her potential early on in a victory against Colgate, where she excelled with three hits and multiple runs scored. Ewing commended her resilience and adaptability at the collegiate level, emphasizing her pivotal role in igniting offensive momentum.

Jantzi, one of Montana’s all-time greats, remains a cornerstone of the program, appearing in 180 career games and ranking high in 15 statistical categories, including third in doubles and fifth in batting average. Ewing noted Jantzi’s versatility and power, making her a formidable presence in the lineup.

As the Grizzlies prepare for the Big Sky tournament, Ewing expressed optimism about Cockhill’s future potential, stating, "There is a lot more to come." Both players have significantly contributed to the team’s success, setting a promising tone as the season progresses.
