Carroll College Celebrated as Montana’s Unified Champion School of 2025
Helena, MT – Carroll College has proudly been named Montana’s Unified Champion School of 2025 for the second consecutive time, recognizing its commitment to inclusivity both on campus and within the Helena community. To achieve this honor, the college met three key criteria: inclusive leadership, whole school engagement, and unified sports.
Maddie Visser, president of the Carroll Special Olympics Club, emphasized the organization’s focus on abilities rather than disabilities. Founded in 2019, the club has thrived since its inception, even amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. "Our mission is to promote inclusion for people of all abilities," Visser stated.
The college is also a national banner school, having demonstrated excellence by adhering to ten national standards and securing sixth place in the Unified College Championship Week. Students like Alexa Hanser, a unified partner, noted the profound impact participation can have, stating that even individuals at small institutions can make significant differences.
The partnership with the Helena Halos Special Olympics team further enhances inclusivity, with athletes directly involved in the club’s operations. For athlete Lylian Ernst, the club offers a vital sanctuary for friendship and camaraderie, highlighting the importance of community and support in the Special Olympics.
