Montana State’s Sydney Brewster Breaks Shot Put Record Again, Named Big Sky Athlete of the Week
FARMINGTON, Utah — Montana State sophomore Sydney Brewster continues to dominate the field, earning the Big Sky Conference women’s field athlete of the week award for the third consecutive week following her record-breaking shot put performance Saturday. This recognition marks the fifth weekly accolade of Brewster’s career.
At the Bengal Invitational in Pocatello, Idaho, Brewster made history on her first throw, launching the shot put an impressive 56 feet, 8 inches. This remarkable distance not only surpassed her own Big Sky record, set just two weeks prior at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Long Beach (54-09.25), but also ranks her 17th in NCAA Division I and 10th in the West Region this season. Among all freshmen and sophomores nationwide, Brewster’s throw stands at seventh.
Brewster’s talent is no surprise—she is the reigning Big Sky indoor champion, having set the Big Sky indoor record back in February. Before her recent triumph, the Big Sky outdoor mark had remained unbroken since 1998, solidifying Brewster’s status as a formidable competitor in collegiate athletics.
Her achievements not only highlight Brewster’s individual skill but also showcase the strength of Montana State’s track and field program. With several events remaining in the season, anticipation builds around Brewster’s potential to further her records and continue making waves in the sport.
