Press Article: Western Montana News Highlights

Western Montana – October 10, 2023

On the recent National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, Chris Butterfly stood alongside supporters to advocate for his daughter Jadie, who was tragically shot in December 2024. Frustrated by the lack of action from law enforcement, the family has launched the "Justice for Jadie" Facebook page to raise awareness about her case and the broader epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous individuals. Despite their efforts, no charges have been filed, highlighting a persistent call for justice.

Additionally, the University of Montana hosted the event "A Place of Good Medicine and Healing: MMIP Awareness Through Art and Allyship." Attendees engaged with personal stories, art exhibits, and a large red tipi, fostering community healing and bringing attention to the MMIW crisis while providing trauma-informed support and educational resources.

In other news, twenty dogs rescued from deplorable conditions in Coram are now available for adoption at the Flathead County Animal Shelter after receiving veterinary care. Their former owner, Candy Evans, faces a jury trial on October 14 for felony aggravated animal cruelty. These dogs, ranging from three months to four years old, are eager for new homes.
