Great Falls Legislators Celebrate Record Tax Cuts and Reforms
GREAT FALLS — Montana’s 69th legislative session wrapped up with bipartisan support for property tax relief and income tax cuts, hailed as significant achievements by local legislators. Republican Representative George Nikolakakos expressed satisfaction with the legislative outcomes, particularly the largest income tax cut in state history and increased starting teacher pay. He underscored the successful rebalancing of the property tax system, which had previously been deemed "out of balance."
Democratic Representative Jane Weber echoed the sentiment, highlighting the benefits of the new property tax structure for homeowners, which includes a $400 rebate for primary residents. She also touted early passage of Medicaid expansion as a key accomplishment, asserting that it was a significant milestone achieved without major hurdles.
Despite being in the minority with only 42 members in the House compared to the Republicans’ 58, Weber noted that several Democrats worked collaboratively with certain Republicans on key issues, fostering a spirit of mutual respect amidst partisan differences. "In the House, we got along pretty well," Nikolakakos remarked, contrasting the more contentious atmosphere in the Senate.

"I’m going back to listen to folks," Nikolakakos stated. Weber also indicated plans to connect with community members as she prepares for the next session.
