Press Release: Corgi Derby Thrills Missoula with Record Participation

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Western Montana Corgi Derby delighted attendees this weekend, featuring 70 corgis in a spirited competition that drew a crowd of enthusiastic fans. This year marked a significant increase in participants from last year’s 40, showcasing a diverse array of corgis, each vying for the coveted title.

The event kicked off with a lively parade of costumed corgis, setting a festive tone. Anna Adams, Director of Missoula Valley Corgis, expressed her excitement over the turnout: “We had a fantastic turnout. Tons of dogs, families, and amazing community engagement,” she remarked.

Races included multiple heats, starting with seasoned corgis, followed by puppies and mixed breeds, leading to a highly competitive championship. After seven heats, Dot from Nampa, Idaho, claimed victory, outperforming last year’s champion. Her owners, the Spradleys, commented on Dot’s potential, saying, “She’s a little scatterbrained sometimes, but if you can focus her, she’s really quick.”

Looking ahead, the Spradleys hope for more corgi racing opportunities, noting a lack of events in their area. Dot is expected to return next year to defend her title, bringing more excitement to the beloved event.
