Senator Daines Introduces “America the Beautiful Act” to Expand Conservation Efforts

Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Steve Daines, alongside Senator Angus King (I-Maine), has introduced the bipartisan “America the Beautiful Act,” aimed at enhancing conservation efforts and addressing maintenance backlogs in national parks. This legislation builds on the foundation laid by Daines’ signature “Great American Outdoors Act,” enacted in 2020 under President Donald Trump.

The new act seeks to strengthen and reauthorize the Legacy Restoration Fund (LRF), significantly increasing annual funding to $2 billion, extending through 2033. Senator Daines emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “When President Trump signed my ‘Great American Outdoors Act’ into law in 2020, it marked a significant conservation victory. I’m proud to work with my colleagues to build on this achievement and protect our outdoor heritage for future generations.”

The maintenance backlog stands at an alarming level across various agencies, with the U.S. National Park Service alone facing $23.26 billion in needed repairs. Other agencies include the U.S. Forest Service with $8.695 billion, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at $2.65 billion, and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management at $5.72 billion. The bill aims to ensure that America’s natural treasures remain accessible for all.
