Brooks Davis: From Reluctant Player to Rising Star for Montana Grizzlies
MISSOULA — Brooks Davis, a wide receiver for the Montana Grizzlies, has rapidly transformed from a hesitant football player into one of the team’s standout talents. Initially focused on baseball, Davis was persuaded by Heritage High School’s head football coach, Dave Fogelstrom, to join the football team.
Fogelstrom recognized Davis’s remarkable speed and athleticism while coaching his older brother in water polo. He persistently encouraged Davis to explore football, and after some initial reluctance, Davis attended a summer passing tournament, where he quickly showcased his potential. Despite lacking football experience, he excelled instantly, catching a touchdown on his very first play.
During his high school career, Davis distinguished himself as a deep threat, amassing 428 yards and five touchdowns in his first season. His agility, combined with a keen sense for the game, garnered attention from FBS and FCS schools alike. With offers from Air Force, Army, and others, Davis committed to Montana in July 2023.
In his senior year, he recorded impressive statistics, including 987 yards and six touchdowns, illustrating significant growth as both a player and leader. Arriving at Montana ahead of the 2024 season, Davis faced a competitive receiver room yet embraced the challenge. Redshirting as a true freshman, he is now eager to demonstrate his skills on the field.
In the recent spring football game, Davis displayed his talents, catching a 69-yard touchdown that showcased his renowned speed. As he prepares for his first official season, both coaches and teammates recognize Davis’s potential to become a game-changer. "He has a burst of speed that teams need to prepare for," says coach Fogelstrom. With his determination and work ethic, the upcoming season promises to be exciting for the promising athlete.
