Montana Grizzlies Welcome All-Big Sky Linebacker Peyton Wing
MISSOULA — The Montana football team has bolstered its roster with the addition of Peyton Wing, a standout linebacker from Portland State, who announced his commitment on social media on Monday. Wing earned All-Big Sky Conference honors last season, making him a valuable acquisition for the Grizzlies.
Choosing Montana over offers from Kent State and North Dakota, Wing comes to the Grizzlies as a junior with two seasons of eligibility remaining. During his tenure at Portland State, he played in 23 games and recorded 113 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and one pass defended. Following a breakout 2024 season, where he led his team with 93 tackles and 7.5 TFLs in just 11 games, Wing is expected to serve as a key anchor and leader for Montana’s defense moving forward.
Originally from Sumner, Washington, Wing also excelled as a high school athlete, earning all-league honors as a running back and linebacker during his senior year and league MVP recognition as a junior.
The Grizzlies face the challenge of replacing five of the six linebackers who contributed significantly last season. Notable departures include Cooper Barnum, Garrett Hustedt, Vai Kaho, and Ryan Tirrell, who have exhausted their eligibility, while Riley Wilson has transferred to Arizona, and Caleb Otlewski sustained an injury in the spring game.
To address this gap, Montana has previously welcomed transfers Elijawah Tolbert from Eastern Illinois and Styles Goodman from Air Force Prep, as well as Solomon Tuliaupupu from USC during spring camp. Wing becomes the second addition from the transfer portal since early April, joining Kennesaw State wide receiver Blake Bohannon in enhancing the Grizzlies’ lineup.
